A group of Presbyterians originally incorporated the Town of Davidson
in 1879,
but the town did not officially come in to being until 1891. The
Town of Davidson
was named for American Revolution General, William Lee Davidson.
Located in downtown Davidson is historic Davidson College. Many
of its
buildings are listed on the National Historic Register. The beautiful
campus has
been designated as an arboretum. The college has over 1,500 students
and 500 staff.
Internationally recognized sculptor, Thomas Clark, calls Davidson
home. Also Located
in the heart of Davidson, The Tom Clark Studio and Museum attract
visitors from all over the world.
Conveiently situated in northern Mecklenburg County, Davidson
is charming with many
beautiful old homes. Along tree lined streets with quaint brick
sidewalks, turn-of-the-century
buildings house a wonderful array of shops including antiques,
art, books, clothing, gifts and more.
With near by Lake Norman affording all sorts of water recreation
and large city amenities just
minutes away in Charlotte, historic Davidson is a great place to
live!
